The comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation program helps you gain your independence after a debilitating injury or illness, such as a stroke, head injury, Parkinson's disease, and others.

Your doctor may recommend short-term therapy in a Comprehensive Rehabilitation Unit before you are able to return to your home.The Comprehensive Rehabilitation Unit stay is a separate stay covered by Medicare and most insurance companies.

The CRU serves patients who have suffered functional loss due to a disabling illness or injury, including the following:

  • Stroke
  • Hip Fractures and Replacements
  • Amputations
  • Closed Head Injury
  • Polyarthritis
  • Congenital Deformities
  • Multiple Trauma
  • Brain Injury
  • Spinal Cord Injury
  • Orthopedic Impairments
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Muscular Dystrophy
  • Parkinson's Disease
     

Comprehensive Rehabilitation Unit Admission Criteria

  • Physical impairment limits functional activity
  • Assistance is required in activities of daily living, energy conservation, use of adaptive equipment, mobility, application of safety techniques, and cognitive functioning
  • Disability is of recent onset or recent progression
  • Intensive rehabilitation services are required and patient has not been previously exposed to rehabilitation or there has been a significant change in the patient's condition
  • Evidence exists of potential for functional gain resulting from a program of intensified rehabilitation
  • The patient is medically stable and requires 24 hour rehabilitation nursing care
  • There has been a referral to the rehabilitation program from a physician or case manager
  • The patient has been screened and approved for admission via the pre-admission screen process
  • The patient can benefit from rehabilitation services 
  •  And/or the patient has one of the following functional impairments:

-decreased mobility
-decreased self-care skills
-decreased problem solving ability
-decreased cognitive ability
-loss of bowel and bladder control

  • The patient must be able to tolerate 3 hours of therapy; patients can be admitted for a 3 to 10 day evaluation of rehab potential
  • The patient requires at least two therapies (typically PT and OT)
