The Duncan Regional Hospital outpatient cardiac rehab team includes licensed and certified providers. Once your physician has referred you for cardiac rehabilitation, your health care team will perform a thorough evaluation to assess your abilities, limitations, any risk factors you may have such as stroke or high blood pressure. Then your team can tailor a cardiac rehab program for you, making sure it's safe and effective. Your personal physician will remain your primary care doctor and will be an important part of your cardiac rehab team that includes nurses, an exercise physiologist, and a dietician.
Who can benefit from cardiac rehabilitation?
Anyone whose medical history includes:
- Heart attack or heart failure
- Coronary artery stinting and/or angioplasty
- Stable angina
- Heart or heart/lung transplant
- Coronary artery bypass surgery
- Valve replacements
Walking on a treadmill or hearing about lifestyle changes you need to make may not be what you want to hear after having a heart attack or being diagnosed with heart disease. But exercising may be your ticket to good health. In fact, after cardiac rehab many people say they feel better than they ever thought possible.
Family members are encouraged to attend education sessions with you. These sessions may include information on diet, exercise, lipids and cholesterol, eating out, coronary artery disease and heart function, medications, and coping with stress and depression. Individual consultations with the dietician are also available.
Our staff is available to answer questions about exercise, diet and other concerns.
Our goal is to help you build a better life after heart disease. For more information about cardiac rehabilitation, call 251-8220 or 251-8777.
