The cardiopulmonary team members at Duncan Regional Hospital perform diagnostic testing, monitoring and respiratory therapy to patients with disorders of the cardiopulmonary and neurological systems
Our primary purpose is to help patients with heart and lung disease recover faster and return to full and productive lives.
All diagnostic procedures and respiratory therapy must be physician referred. Tests and treatments are performed by respiratory care practitioners that are licensed by the State of Oklahoma.
Identifying your problem is the first step toward correcting it. We offer a variety of non-invasive tests and treatments on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. These include, but are not limited to:
- Pulmonary function tests. They measure how well the lungs take in and exhale air and how efficiently they transfer oxygen into the blood. The tests are performed to diagnose certain types of lung disease, especially asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema to determine the cause of shortness of breath, or to measure whether occupational exposure to contaminants affects lung function. They can also be used after the administration of medications to assess their effect, and to measure progress in disease treatment
- Stress tests. Also called a treadmill test, this helps your doctor to determine how well your heart handles physical exertion by raising your heart rate. During exercise, the heart needs to pump more blood to generate more oxygen. The stress test reveals whether the arteries are pumping enough blood to the heart. It's also a good way to determine how much exercise is appropriate for you.
- EKGs. An electrocardiogram measures the heart's electrical impulses through sensors taped to the chest. It is used to find out whether the heart rate and rhythm are normal or if heart damage has occurred.
- Holter monitors. These show heart impulses over time. Patients usually wear sensors attached to a small recording device for 24 hours.
