Cut the Junk
One of the best things you can do for your health is avoid the things that threaten to sabotage your diet. The best way to do this is to keep junk food out of your house! Some great tips for making this work are:
-Eat a meal or snack before grocery shopping so you’re not tempted to buy items you know you don’t need.
-Go shopping after a great workout! You’ll be more motivated to stay on track.
-Avoid going down the aisles at the store. Stick to the outside edges (whole foods like fresh produce, meat, fish, poultry, dairy, etc) and only go down aisles for speicific items on your list.
-Make a grocery list and stick to it. Plan out meals and know exactly what you need.
-Once you do go shopping, prep healthy snacks and have them readily available to grab out of the fridge. Many times, the only reason packaged foods are chosen over fresher, healthier options is for the conveinence. So make healthier options conveinent!
-Keep some healthy, shelf-stable items on hand, like nuts, low-sodium soups, peanut butter, canned fruits in their own juice or water and canned chicken or tuna in water.
-Allow yourself to splurge at special occasions. If your host a party, make sure to provide some sweets along with healthier options.
-If you are craving something sweet, buy a single serving. For example, instead of buying a gallon of ice cream that’s going to sit in the freezer, go through the drive through and get an ice cream cone.
If you can keep the food in your house healthy, you’ve won half the battle. So get rid of the junk food and find ways to set yourself up for success!
